After a very successful first day at the Festival, we returned on 9/2 to have another go at it. This time, we started in Future World and then made a counter-clockwise lap around the World Showcase. Our first booth of the day was Coastal Eats.
Coastal Eats was one of my favorite booths last year. All 3 food items were good, and the Shrimp Scampi Dip was one of my favorite items of the Festival. Let’s see how they fared this year.
Baked Shrimp Scampi Dip
Not a bad start! This dip is very flavorful, if a bit oily. The shrimp were tender, which was sometimes a problem last year. I do wish the bread was toasted.
Score: 8.0 out of 10
I was very disappointed when handed this dish. I almost asked for a different one, but decided not to be that guy… I should have been that guy. These scallops were tiny… barely bigger than bay scallops. The flavors here were much blander than the version served up at the Wine and Dine Studio. It was a very sad looking dish, and didn’t taste a whole lot better.
Score: 6.0 out of 10
Next, we walked about 20 steps over to the Earth Eats booth.
There are only two items here, and one of them is a vegan burger that I’m not really excited about trying. For now, we stuck with the cow burger.
Steakhouse Blended Burger
This burger had a nice, earthy flavor, as the mushrooms really came through. All of the toppings worked pretty well together, though I could have used a bit more of the brie fondue. It was a bit dry.
Score: 7.5 out of 10
We then made our way to the World Showcase. We made a few stops along the way…
Our main objective was the cheesecake we just didn’t have room for on day 1. The wife also wanted another serving of the Stroganoff, which we reviewed on day 1.
Maple Bourbon Boursin Cheesecake
This was delicous. The caramel and pecans really complemented the cheesecake well. I prefer my cheesecake very creamy and smooth, and this fit the bill. If you like a firmer cheesecake, this may not be for you. My only nitpick is that it could have been colder.
Score: 8.5 out of 10
And here is our second Stroganoff, along with what I wrote on day 1:
Braised Beef “Stroganoff”
“This was one of our favorite items last year. This year’s version was a bit dry, and a smaller portion. But the flavors we liked last year were still present. A bit more of the cheese sauce would have helped.” I forgot to mention in that review, I’m not sure what the point of the pickle is?
Score: 7.5 out of 10
Our first stop in the World Showcase would be Hawai’i… what’s with the apostrophe?
Hawai’i was home to one of my very favorite items of last years festival, and somehow I forgot to get this on day 1. So here it is…
Teriyaki-Glazed SPAM Hash
Somehow this SPAM (!) dish is amazing once again. It was served piping hot, and I was given a very generous serving. The combination of the “meat”, potatoes, and spicy mayo really works well together. This is probably my favorite item of the festival.
Score: 9.5 out of 10
I think we ordered another Banana Almond Soft Serve from Almond Orchard at this point. I guess I didn’t take a picture. But it was just as delicous as day 1!
Our next stop would be Ireland.
None of the food items piqued my interest enough to order on day 2, but a drink caught my eye.
Guiness Baileys Shake
First things first. I’m not much of a beer drinker. I don’t really drink wine, either. I’m a spirits guy… tequila, whiskey, vodka, etc. That’s why you don’t see many (any?) beer reviews on these pages. The reviews would be pretty boring and one note. “Yuck, it tastes like beer. Zero stars!”. Ain’t nobody got time for that!
That being said, there isn’t much of a Guiness flavor here. It tastes mostly of Baileys. There is a bit of a Guiness aftertaste, but that’s it. And it’s not really a shake, either. It’s more like Baileys Chocolate Milk. Not bad, but not great either. OMG the “glass” is totes cute though! =|
Score: 6.0 out of 10
That’ll do it for Part 1 (of 2) of our second day at the 2018 Epcot Food & Wine Festival. Part 2 should be up tomorrow. Thanks for reading!
